Meet a Gardener: Rose Care Program

As the Evaluation Manager, I had the pleasure of evaluating our engaging "Meet a Gardener: Rose Care" program. This event, featuring Stephen Reid, Assistant Curator of the Rose Garden, was designed to educate attendees on essential rose care techniques through informal drop-in talks.

Program Overview:

Gardens:

Participants gathered in our beautiful Rose Garden for insightful and interactive talks on best practices for rose cultivation. The sessions focused on practical techniques such as deadheading, pruning, and fertilizing. Attendees also had the chance to engage in informal Q&A sessions to address their own rose care challenges. Key discussion topics included:

  • Deadheading: Techniques to encourage continuous blooming.
  • Fertilizing: Best practices for nourishing roses.
  • Pruning: Methods to maintain plant health and shape.
  • Day-to-Day Care: Tips for daily maintenance.
  • Diverse Roses: An exploration of the various rose types thriving in The Huntington’s Rose Garden.

Session Details:

Each session featured a 20-minute presentation followed by a 20-minute Q&A, held at 11 a.m., noon, and 1 p.m. This schedule allowed attendees to acquire hands-on knowledge and directly interact with Stephen Reid, gaining personalized insights into rose care.
